The city of La Porte has notified residents to evacuate their homes since they may be in the path of a storm surge of 18 feet or more.
Residents were notified by the city through an emergency e-mail message or text message notification.
The warning states, “At this time the highways are clear and you still have time to leave.”
The message also mentioned the threat of tropical storm winds likely for Friday afternoon.
People evacuating from La Porte were notified to meet at the Pasadena Convention Center for help in their evacuation efforts, but were warned that the Center would close when no more buses are available or if winds begin to affect the city.
Emergency services will not be available for La Porte residents as a result of hurricane conditions, according to the emergency message.
