NOW ALL OF HOUSTON KNOWS JUST HOW GOOD HE IS AT HIS JOB!
Congratulations to my co-worker FOX 26 anchor Mike Barajas for being voted best news anchor in Houston. He received this honor in the 2008 Best of Houston edition of the Houston Press magazine. It was only a few weeks ago when I encouraged all of the Insite readers to vote for Mike. But that wasn’t actually needed because the staff and panel of the weekly paper chose him as the best anchor in town. After years of broadcast excellence Mike is truly deserving of this award. Make sure you congratulate him in the comment section below!
Over the years, he has covered major stories ranging from the Space Shuttle triumphs and tragedies, to presidential conventions and inaugurations and Pope John Paul’s visits to Texas and Mexico.
A graduate of the University of Houston, Mike’s first broadcast job was at KLVL radio, at the time it was the only Spanish media outlet in the Houston area. He also worked at KENR radio and KPRC radio and was eventually promoted to reporter at KPRC TV.
In addition to his duties in the newsroom, Mike has also hosted and helped produce the FOX 26 public affairs program Hola Houston. He is very involved in the community and over the years has served on various boards, including The Children’s Museum of Houston and the Red Cross. Mike is also a past president of HAHMP, the Houston Association of Hispanic Media Professionals.
Mike and his wife Sylvia are the proud parents of three boys, Mike, Bill and John Paul and consider Houston their hometown.
