With a listenership of millions, who better to take the voting message to the streets than Radio One? In partnership with the Hip Hop Caucus’ Respect My Vote campaign, Radio One Inc. broadcasting company will push to register at least 50,000 voters in a single day and Houston’s #1 morning show host, Madd Hatta, for 97.9 The Box is going to do his part my staying in place and on the air until he personally has registered 5,000 voters. Hatta is so committed to this drive that he is literally taking over the Radio One station for the day until he has reached his target number of voter registrations. Madd Hatta will be posted up at Houston’s Sharpstown Mall from 5AM Tuesday, September 30th and will broadcast live from the event throughout the day. Houston’s sports and music celebrity population are being encouraged to show up and show their support for this great cause and, if they have not already, register to vote themselves.
“We are at a crucial time in history.” Hatta explains. “Bank failures, a $700 billion bailout, recession, depression, corporate scandals…….the list is endless. We need to be active or see the United States fail as a country. It is time for everyone to be proactive in getting the right officials elected to represent the correct causes and part of that is by being a part of the voting process. Our company has committed to bringing in a record 50,000 people to be registered to vote from around the country and I wanted to step up and get my morning show listeners that are not registered, to get involved and do so. I will broadcast around the clock until I get 5,000 unregistered voters registered and ready to do their part on November 4th.”
Station Program Director, Terri Thomas tells us, “Madd Hatta is going above and beyond by pledging to get 5,000 people to register. He is definitely championing Radio One’s cause for the station and is committed to staying at Sharpstown for as long as is necessary.”
Local media is encouraged to cover this event to help spread the word on the location of this monumental voting drive.
