Two Houston city council members are going after a type of business they say only hurt communities like the Fifth Ward.
Councilmen Peter Brown and Jarvis Johnson say hot sheet motels have become a major problem in Houston. They say in some cases, the hourly motels only bring down the quality of life in Houston.

Johnson says the motels attract drugs, crime and prostitution to his district where they can be found in clusters. He says he wants the city to require motels, such as Deluxe and Sarong, to be placed on major thoroughfares or highways instead of in neighborhoods.
Brown says there needs to be a stronger nuisance ordinance that will specifically deal with the businesses.
The owner of Deluxe, Rash Patel, says he’s done everything possible to clean up his motel. He says his efforts have actually hurt his business.
Mayor Bill White has said the city has been able to shut some motels down with a nuisance statute, but Councilman Brown says more needs to be done!
