Former City Attorney Gene Locke is tapping into some interesting resumes as he assembles a team for his all-but-official run for Houston mayor in the November election to replace term-limited Bill White.
Campaign consultant Christian Archer, who worked on White’s 2003 campaign and on successful mayoral campaigns in San Antonio and Austin, is confirmed as a future aide for Locke’s campaign.
Carolyn Campbell, a former KHOU Channel 11 reporter mentioned in a recent New York Times report about TV news stations shedding veteran staffers, will also play an off-camera role as a campaign aide, according to Locke.
We do not plan to make this space a bulletin board for every campaign hire. But Locke’s recruitment of a link to White and of a familiar media figure make the early stirrings of the contest that much more rich — while Controller Annise Parker, Councilman Peter Brown and perhaps many others put together their line-ups.
