I got a call from a City Hall Insider on Sunday who was upset about an advertisement that person saw in the Houston Defender. That person said Mayor Bill White’s Senatorial campaign had “the nerve” to put him in between Dr. Martin Luther King and President Barack Obama in the African American owned and operated weekly newspaper. Once the source read the ad to me I actually had to see it before passing judgement. After I got it I was a bit in the middle because the ad indicated Mayor White was paying tribute to the two African American men. But that person asked me why Mayor White had to put his face in the middle of these two icons as if he’s done just as much. So, I decided to bring it to the readers of the Insite. What do you think about the Mayor planting his image in the middle of King and Obama? I talked with a co-worker who had no problem with it as long as it was clear White was paying tribute and not comparing himself to the two men. What’s your opinion of this newspaper ad paid for by Friends of Bill White?
