City Of Houston Council Member Wanda Adams in conjunction with Police Chief Harold Hurtt are conducting four separate forums examining public safety and preventive measures to reduce crime in several communities. At a later date a press release and other notifications will be generated regarding the subsequent forums in March and April.
The first two of four forums will be held on the following dates and respective locations:
Thursday, February 5, 2009 – 3826 Wheeler Avenue, Houston, Texas
Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church (Christian Life Center)
6 p.m.– 8 p.m.
Thursday, February 26, 2009 – 5525 Hobby Rd, Houston, Texas 77053
Ft. Bend Boys and Girls Club
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
In 2008 the City of Houston endured a slight violent crime increase. Law enforcement officials have cited that there are no easy answers for the spike, as recognized by Capt. Mark Eisenman, with HPD’s crime analysis stated in the Houston Chronicle, “I wish I knew,” he said. “We’re certainly going to attack that issue in the coming year.” The concern is widespread. Council Member Adams is facilitating the aforementioned forums to educate the community. “Public Safety is my number one priority. Citizens, community organizations, and civic clubs working in conjunction with law enforcement as a collaborative effort can make an impact in our communities”. These forums hope to address a crime heightening in several specific areas where increased visibility and community involvement is taking shape in response to the boost.
It is the goal of the Council Member Adams and Police Chief Hurtt to inform and engage these specific areas in hopes of replicating the success the City of Houston has endured with non violent crimes, falling 10 percent in 2008.
