COMEDIAN MO’NIQUE GETS CRITICAL PRAISE FOR HER NEW ROLE IN PUSH!

HAVE YOU SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS MOVIE?

Push: Based on a Novel by Sapphire; telling a grim, gritty but ultimately openhearted story of life in the inner-city, critics and audiences were blown away by the level of the performances in the film. As a film critic of mine said to me, “If you had told me before Sundance that the best performance at the whole festival was going to be from Mo’Nique, I would have laughed at you. And who’s laughing now?” And yet, Mo’Nique — the stand-up and TV star — has earned nothing but accolades for her work as bad-yet-human mother in Push; similar praise came to Mariah Carey, almost unrecognizable as a social worker. Push earned praise for being tough but not mean, hopeful but not phony, and audiences at Sundance loved it; while it hasn’t gotten distribution yet, odds are fairly good it’ll be coming soon to a theater near you.
