COUNCILMAN JAMES RODRIGUEZ CELEBRATES CINCO DE MAYO!

AND A HISTORY LESSON ABOUT THE HOLIDAY!

The Insite was invited down by the staff of Houston City Councilman James Rodriguez to his Cinco De Mayo celebration.  It was held in downtown Houston at the House of Blues.  Dozens of friends, employees, family and friends turned out for the event.  Some of the people in attendance: Gracie Garcia, James Rodriguez, Previn Jones, Marc Campos, Janaeya Carmouche, and many more.  For those of you who are wondering exactly what this Cinco De Mayo is all about here’s the explanation:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico.[1][2] The holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 51862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.[3][4] The outnumbered Mexicans defeated a much better-equipped French army that had not been defeated in almost 50 years.[5]

Cinco de Mayo is not “an obligatory federal holiday” in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily.
