Chris Brown has taped an interview with Larry King to talk about being sentenced for beating Rihanna. His mother and attorney will also be interviewed. The interview will air this Wednesday.
HB 2730 and HB 339, enacted recently by the 81st Texas Legislature, restrict all drivers under the age of 18 from using a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle. This new restriction applies to licenses issued after September 1, 2009, to applicants who are under 18.
All drivers under 18 who were issued an original driver license before September 1, 2009 are still restricted from using a wireless communication device during the six-month period following the issuance of that original license.
The use of a wireless communication device cannot be used to make a traffic stop.
Adding to an increasing list of companies distancing themselves from Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck, ten new companies whose ads were recently seen during Beck’s program-Applebee’s, Bank of America, Bell & Howell, DirecTv, General Mills, Kraft, Regions Financial Corporation, SAM (Store and Move), Travelers Insurance and Vonage-have pledged to take steps to ensure that their ads don’t run on Beck’s show. Forty-six companies have now committed not to support Beck’s show since ColorOfChange.org launched its campaign three weeks ago after the Fox News Channel host called President Obama a “racist” who “has a deep-seated hatred for white people” during an appearance on Fox & Friends.
Three of the latest defections-Travelers Insurance, Bell & Howell and DirecTv-join the list of advertisers who claim to have already placed Glenn Beck’s program on a “do not air” list, but whose ads have been seen on Beck’s program, apparently against their wishes.
What is Iftar? The evening meal when Muslims break their fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with Muslims gathering to break their fast together. Iftar is done right after Maghrib (sunset) time. Traditionally, a date is the first thing to be consumed during iftar when the fast is broken.
Muskogee Police say 35-year-old Ronnie Presley has been arrested in Muskogee.
Earlier this week, federal prosecutors charged Presley in one of the country’s largest human sex-trafficking cases.
In a news release, Muskogee Police say officers from their department and the FBI arrested Presley and two others at a home in the 1600 block of Beaver Road.
Presley, four other men and a woman are charged in a 16-count indictment in federal court in Houston, Texas which claims they forced female children and adult women to become sex slaves.

In its weekly run-down of album sales yesterday, Billboard reported that Michael Jackson’s 2003 singles compilation, Number Ones, is currently the year’s best selling album, moving 1,619,000 copies, 10,000 more than Taylor Swift’sFearless.
But because of how Billboard counts albums, ifNumber Ones beats the biggest selling album released in 2009 (it’ll likely be Swift’s, but Jay-Z’sBlueprint 3 is expected to ship a lot of units) by a million copies, it won’t be called the biggest selling album of the year on the charts, because Billboard doesn’t count albums that have been out that long in their yearly totals. It remains to be seen if Billboard will change the way it charts albums, but you’d figure it has to if Jackson wins handily.
Our campaign “made history before dawn Tuesday with a splashy television commercial” reported KHOU’s Lee Mcguire on the night’s evening news, as we launched our first ad. We “won all the cachet that comes with being first,” wrote the Chronicle’s Bradley Olson, who noted that “Local bloggers and politicos have given the ad generally positive reviews and it has earned some coverage as well.”
He’s right. Check it out:
Off the Kuff: “It hits all the high points of Brown’s resume while emphasizing that he has a plan for Houston. It’s a pretty good ad.” http://bit.ly/FirstAdKuff
Musings: “I think it’s effective in that it’s easy to remember the message points…the first salvo in the ad wars has been fired…it is a good introductory ad.”http://bit.ly/FirstAdMuse
Commentary: “Commentary caught H-Town Mayoral candidate Peter Brown’s first ad this morning during “The Today Show.” It’s a nice ad for an intro. Peter now has the airwaves to himself which is always advantageous. Now the clock is ticking for the other candidates…tick, tick, tick, tick.”http://bit.ly/FirstAdCampos
David Ortez: “Brown released a dynamic, informative 30-second advert that will appear on broadcast and cable television. The commercial is titled “Next Step” and touts Peter Brown’s achievements in City Council and plans for a better Houston. The ad is polished and well thought out.”http://bit.ly/FirstAdOrtez
Isiah Carey: “Peter Brown for Mayor Goes to the Next Level!” http://bit.ly/FirstAdCarey
Greg’s Opinions: “I’m sure it will have a positive impact for Peter” http://bit.ly/FirstAdWythe
Dos Centavos: “You have to hand it to Peter Brown for having a nice one done.” http://bit.ly/FirstAdMedellin
Mayoral Musings: “Peter Brown has taken the bold step of reaching beyond the forums to the masses. The ad is very modern. It is fast-paced.”http://bit.ly/FirstAdSims
As KTRK’s Miya Shay wrote, and several others also noted, “The pressure is now on for the other candidates to jump in the TV game. It’s an expensive game to play in. However, as we saw in Mayor Bill White’s first mayoral foray six years ago, TV exposure was crucial to his win.” http://bit.ly/FirstAdShay
Until then, we’ve got the voters all to ourselves.
