RONALD GREEN SAYS HOLM’S CAMPAIGN MANAGER TRIED TO BLACKMAIL HIM PLUS THE DEBATE ON THE RADIO!

THEY FINALLY COME FACE TO FACE ON THE ISSUES!

For the first 20 minutes it was a bunch of pleasantries between Pam Holm and Ronald Green on KCOH radio Friday morning. Both of the Houston City Council Members are running for City Controller. Over the last two weeks the race between the two has gotten particularly ugly. Holm has gone public with Green’s personal finances. Federal records show and Green confirms he owes the IRS over $100,000 for back taxes. Green calls it an honest dispute. Holm says if Green can’t get his own finances in order how could he run the Controller’s office. Here are some of the key points I was able to gather from the half hour debate on KCOH paid for by Holm:

Key Points:

*Ronald Green says Pam Holm’s own campaign manager has two tax liens owing over $150,000 – so she should understand – he also says this is Republican dirty tricks!

*Ronald Green says Pam Holm’s campaign manager tried to blackmail him with the details of his tax lien before they released it!

*Holm says a lot of people have issues they have to deal with but when you’re running for Controller and the finances of a city the first thing you should do is make sure your personal finances are in order!

*Holm says a Controller has a responsibility to the city to make sure they don’t have personal issues that would jeopardize their ability to ensure the city is in good fiscal shape!

KATHY WHITMIRE HOSTS FUNDRAISER FOR ANNISE PARKER!

WHITMIRE: PARKER IS WHAT THIS CITY NEEDS!

Former Mayor Kathy Whitmire held a fundraiser for Annise Parker at Tony’s on Thursday evening. Whitmire mingled through a well attended event and explained why she supports Annise. “I support Annise because she has the values to recognize what this city needs and fiscal
responsibility which have been proven in her time as the City Controller to take this city through tough economic times. She is ready to lead Houston to new heights and I look forward to seeing her as Houston’s next mayor.” At the end of the speeches, Johnny Peden, proud supporter, presented Kathy and Annise a framed Houston Chronicle front page story when Kathy was elected. Laughter erupted in the room as everyone read the headline, “Whitmire Stampedes Heard.”- noting how there could be a similar headline on Wednesday’s paper!

MICHAEL JACKSON’S NEW MOVIE PULLS IN $20 MILLION IN ONE DAY!

YOU GET SOME INSITE INTO WHAT A PERFECTIONIST HE IS WHEN IT COMES TO HIS CRAFT!

If there was any doubt Michael Jackson wouldn’t do in death what he has done in life think again.

The Insite decided to go the movie database The-Numbers.com to see how Jackson’s new movie ‘This Is It’ did in it’s first day of release. I was pleasantly surprised at the numbers.

The movie website shows the behind the scenes footage did extremely well at the box office. Domestically the movie pulled in $7.4 million dollars for one day ticket sales. But you know MJ, his stuff is always international. The film pulled in an additional $12.7 million.

Ok, get out your calculator for this one or all 10 of your fingers. This Is It has done $20.1 million dollars in business in its first day of release.

I can say I totally recommend the movie. You not only get to see Michael perform a whole list of his songs but you get a better idea of what a perfectionist he is. And he’s no pushover. Jackson takes control of every aspect of his concert. As he says, “it’s all for love.”

Make sure you go see ‘This Is It’ at a movie theater near you!

TEACHER ARRESTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES!

HE’S IDENTIFIED AS STEPHEN SUDDUTH!

An Austin County grand jury has indicted former elementary school teacher Stephen Wayne Sudduth, 34, of Sealy, on 30 counts of possession of child pornography and 10 counts of promotion of child pornography. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s Cyber Crimes Unit investigators found more than 57,000 images and 1,000 videos during a forensic examination of Sudduth’s computers and external media devices.

“An elementary school educator possessing thousands of sexually explicit images and video of children frightens parents around the state,” Attorney General Abbott said. “The indictment reflects the Cyber Crime Unit’s continued focus to capture the worst of the worst cyber criminals. Investigators will continue working to stop sexual predators from exploiting children online.”

The Cyber Crimes Unit began investigating Sudduth after a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicated Sudduth possessed child pornography. Cyber Crimes Unit investigators arrested Sudduth after today’s felony indictments. In July, Sudduth resigned from a Hays Consolidated Independent School District teaching job he was set to begin. Sudduth is prohibited from using the Internet and being near children until trial. Assistant Attorney General Brenda Cantu is prosecuting the case.

Before he transferred to Hays Consolidated ISD, Sudduth was an elementary school teacher with the Katy Independent School District. Parents who have questions or relevant information about this case may contact the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Investigations Division at (800) 252-8011.

Under Texas law, possession of child pornography is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000. Promotion of child pornography is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in state prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

NEW RULES AT THE DRIVERS LICENSE OFFICES IN TEXAS!

DO IT ONLINE OR THROUGH US MAIL!

Beginning October 29 and 30, citizens who need to re-instate their driver license or get a copy of their driver record must submit their required documentation online or via federal mail, rather than at DPS offices. With this change, DPS employees will be able to focus on reducing wait times in Driver License offices.

Driver license re-instatement is necessary if a driver has had their license suspended or revoked, which may occur due to a number of reasons, such as receiving a DWI conviction, driving without liability insurance or failure to pay child support.

Customers who need to reinstate their licenses or receive their driver record for court dates must go to http://www.texasonline.com, the DPS Web site or conduct their business via the federal mail.

The elimination of these services at Driver License offices will not change the processing time for driver records or driver license re-instatement, which will remain at seven to 10 business days. However, customers should submit their paperwork in a timely fashion and keep a copy of the paperwork they have submitted.

Three of the Driver License offices in the state currently provide driver records and re-instatement services, and they will all remain open for other driver license transactions. Those offices, in Garland, Houston (on Gessner) and San Antonio (at Universal City) will no longer conduct these services beginning October 30. The fourth office in Austin (on Denson) will cease providing driver records and reinstating driver licenses on October 29.

Commercial Drivers

The Austin Denson office will re-open on November 2, serving as a commercial driver license written and practical testing facility only. Commercial driver testing currently administered in Austin (North Lamar, South Congress and Northwest), San Marcos and Georgetown will be conducted at the Austin Denson office.

For more information on driver records and driver license re-instatement, go to http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/dlindex.htm.

LOCKE: PETER BROWN CAN’T BE TRUSTED AND HE’S DESPERATE!

THE OTHER CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR FIRES BACK!

Gene Locke’s campaign has sent out a press release to address Peter Brown’s alleged negative attack ads. If you haven’t seen the latest tv commercial released from Brown’s campaign it goes directly after his candidate for Mayor of Houston Gene Locke. Here’s how Locke is responding:

“Peter Brown is running an outrageously expensive campaign on outrageously cheap lies and he can’t be trusted. Peter is learning that Houstonians cannot be bought and his eleventh hour desperate campaign attacks won’t work. Voters in Houston are learning that Peter Brown can’t be trusted.”

PAM HOLM CHALLENGER RON GREEN TO RADIO DEBATE!

WILL YOU TUNE IN TO HEAR WHAT THEY SAY?

From Pam Holm: Our campaign is giving Ron Green 30 minutes of radio airtime tomorrow to explain his more than $120,000 federal income tax debt to you and to Houston voters.

Tune in tomorrow morning at 9:30 to KCOH 1430 AM and learn whether Green shows up.

Among the topics we will ask Green to clarify for voters are:

* Why didn’t he pay his income taxes completely, honestly and fairly between 2002 – 2007?

* If he is now admitting to having additional income, why hasn’t he amended his city ethics reports to clarify the source of that income?

* An independent opinion from a CPA in Houston says Green has been evading the IRS for many years. How does he justify his qualifications for city controller in light of this?

* How does he justify paying for a Cadillac Escalade, a BMW and a Mercedes while owing the IRS more than $120,000?

* How does he justify remodeling his home but not paying his overdue income taxes?

* How does Green expect voters to trust him with taxpayer dollars?

* How does he square his campaign claims to have “strong grounding in financial policy” but owing the IRS more than $120,000 on unpaid income taxes?

* With his credit trouble and the IRS liens against his home, won’t taxpayers have to pay for a large liability protection plan to allow a controller with such poor financial management skills to handle their taxes and spending?

Our campaign challenges Green to come clean. If he wants to be a transparent public servant, tomorrow he can join us on the air, in studio, to set the record straight.

Feel free to call in with your questions or comments.

We know Houston wants and deserves a controller who will honor their responsibilities and talk to voters in good times and tough times. We work for Pam because we know she has integrity, honor and the best intentions for all of Houston. Her record proves it.

HOUSTON ATTORNEY JOHN O’QUINN KILLED IN EARLY MORNING ACCIDENT!

DETAILS ARE STILL COMING IN!

Fox 26 News has learned famed Houston attorney John O’quinn has died. Sources say he died in a deadly car collision on Allen Parkway this morning. FOX 26 legal Analyst Chris Tritico confirms the legendary attorney is dead. We’re told the lawyer was in the vehicle with his driver according to Tritico. O’Quinn is known for his skills in the courtroom and his charitable gifts which include millions to the University of Houston and The Children Assessment Center. Tune into FOX 26 news for more details!

More about John O’Quinn:

The firm’s operating principles and values appropriately reflect those of its founder, John M. O’Quinn, whose strong work ethic and focused nature took root during his working-class upbringing in Houston.

As a young man, he learned the value of a hard day’s work firsthand as an employee in his father’s auto mechanic garage — a lesson that served him well years later at The University of Houston Law Center, where he graduated first in his class.

In addition to this honor, O’Quinn served as editor of the Houston Law Review and won a state moot court championship, rounding out a trio of feats unmatched before.

Today, O’Quinn is widely acknowledged as one of the most accomplished trial lawyers of his time, holding some of the largest verdicts and settlements in the country.

With a penchant for nurturing a unique culture of civic involvement and private philanthropy, he uses the personal experiences that have undoubtedly shaped his career to just as clearly define the firm that carries his name.

ANNISE PARKER FIRES BACK IN POLITICAL BATTLE FOR CITY HALL!

PARKER: BROWN IS MISLEADING THE PUBLIC!

Houston Mayoral candidate Annise Parker is firing back. Her target is Councilman Peter Brown. Brown, who’s also running for mayor, alleged in some his campaign literature that Parker in her role as City Controller dropped the ball. He says Parker missed deadlines for filing the city’s financial reports and Brown pointed to an audit that showed under Parker’s watch the city’s financial security was at risk. Parker says what Brown is trying to do is mislead the public. In a mid morning press conference Parker said, “this is a falsehood that smears my reputation but it directly attacks the Controller’s office and you’re not going to go after my people and I’m not going to respond.” Houston’s current Mayor Bill White defends Parker against Brown’s allegations. In an October 28, 2009 memo released by Parker, White says the Controller is not responsible for these delays and the reason for the delays were openly discussed at City Council. The Mayor went on to write the City has not been put at financial risk. Parker also said desperate candidates (Brown) do desperate things. We placed a call to Peter Brown’s office for a response this morning. Campaign manager and spokesperson Lucinda Guinn says Brown wasn’t available for a comment at the moment. However, she did say they stand behind their claims he may be available to defend his position later today.
