Two children died after firefighters pulled them out of a southwest Houston home fully engulfed in flames early Sunday morning.
Houston firefighters responded to a house fire in the 4800 block of East Ridgecreek Drive around 12:50 a.m. and found the children’s uncle standing in the front yard screaming that children were inside, officials said.
Firefighters pulled out three children, ages 2, 4 and 6,, and transported them to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition, officials said. The 2- and 4-year-old children later died.
Investigators suspect the children may have been home alone when the fire erupted, but they are still investigating, officials said.
A photographer at the scene said he was threatened by the uncle who was screaming in the home’s front yard and got punched as he tried to explain he was doing his job. The photographer then claims the uncle fire three shots possibly in the air before he and other family members drove off in a truck.
Houston police and arson investigators later found the uncle at the hospital where the children were taken.
The photographer also was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
