FORMER HOUSTON MAYOR BILL WHITE GETS HELP FROM THE FORMER PRESIDENT IN THE RACE FOR GOVERNOR!

THIS IS THE LETTER BILL CLINTON IS SENDING OUT TO HELP THE OTHER BILL IN THE TEXAS GOVERNOR’S RACE!

Dear Friend,

The governor’s race in Texas will be one of the most important political contests in the nation this year.

Texans will get to choose between a proven, mainstream public servant, Bill White, and one of the most strident, divisive political figures in the nation.

Bill White worked with me as Deputy Secretary of Energy, and we made real progress towards a sustainable energy future. His work helped us balance the federal budget. In Houston, he became one of the most effective, respected, and popular mayors of a large American city in decades, and all Americans witnessed his amazing leadership after Hurricane Katrina.

Please join me in supporting Bill White as Texas’ next governor by making a $5 contribution to his campaign today.

The American people will be watching this election closely.
Texas voters have an opportunity to send a message in support of mainstream leadership to people throughout this country.

Texas schools are responsible for educating one out of every 10 young Americans, and the nation watched as the Texas State Board of Education injected partisan politics into the public school curriculum under Texas’ current governor. As a former governor myself, I can tell you that Bill would make a superb governor for Texas’ future — a leader who understands that the most important function of state government is public and higher education.

But that won’t stop well-funded special interest groups and right-wing partisans from attacking Bill White with smear campaigns.

That’s why it is so important that all of us who support Bill demonstrate our support by contributing before June 30, the last financial reporting deadline before late September.

Texas faces enormous budget challenges as a result of the global economic downturn. The state received more funds from the federal government than almost any other state under the Recovery Act. But for the purpose of political theater, Texas’ current governor turned down federal funding opportunities for education.

Bill knows how to manage budgets wisely based on his experience in the private sector, as a chief operating officer of a federal cabinet department, and as mayor of the nation’s fourth largest city. This expertise will serve him well as Texas’ next governor.

Please join me in supporting Bill White’s campaign before the June 30 financial reporting deadline. Forward this email to your friends and urge them to contribute as well.

Thank you for all you’re doing to elect my friend and former colleague, Bill White.

Sincerely,

Bill Clinton
