I am hoping to get the word out to victims of Hurricane Ike that sustained damages to their homes and are still unable to finance needed repairs. This week H-GAC (Houston Galveston Area Council) is holding public comment hearings to receive community feedback on how to distribute $258,000,000 to address Hurricane Ike disaster recovery efforts. This organization is responsible for coordinating and allocating fund disbursement from the federal government to Houston/Galveston area municipalities. In the past, the presence of community residents has not been equally represented at these public hearings and the monies end up being funneled towards other initiatives. Community leaders, residents and supporters are encouraged to gather and present input in the form of letters and photos of flooding and damaged homes. This is the proof that is needed to show the real need of funds to flow into the community. We are asking for supporters to join us along with other underserved communities at one of the meetings as we let our voices be heard and demand justice.
