Associated Press: Talk radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has become the latest public figure to apologize for using the n-word in a public forum. The host uttered the word several times during an on-air conversation with a caller — and is now saying she is sorry for doing so. In comments from the opening of her show — comments posted on her Web site — she said she was wrong to use the word repeatedly She says she “articulated the N-word all the way out — more than one time.” She says that “was wrong” and that she “made a horrible mistake” in doing so. Schlessinger says she pulled herself off the air at the end of the hour. The talk show host was in a chat with a woman who called herself Jade — and thought she was “hypersensitive” about race issues. The woman is in an interracial relationship and said her husband’s friends made racist comments about her in her home.
Besides using the “N-word” repeatedly, Dr. Laura Schlessinger may find that she may be held to account for her other comments during her radio show the other day. The talk show host appeared to dismiss the impact of the N-word. When a black caller asked if the N-word was offensive, Dr. Laura seemed to suggest that it was OK because — as she put it — “black guys say
it all the time.” She went on to repeat the word several time. While she didn’t direct the racial slur at the woman, she used it to suggest how often she hears it — and claimed it shouldn’t be
considered offensive. When the caller took offense, Schlessinger replied: “Oh, then I guess you don’t watch HBO or listen to any black comedians.” Schlessinger also said that if the caller didn’t
have a sense of humor about race, she shouldn’t have entered into an interracial marriage.
