Police found 71 year old Julia Muckleroy dead in her home.
Several of her neighbors were standing outside that morning as the news media converged on the community.
One of the people eager to talk to reporters was Isaac Smith. He seemed more than anxious to get on camera to me…too anxious. I decided not to interview him.
But while I was standing in front of Muckleroy’s house Smith walked up behind me. He said, “Isiah, I have been a big fan of yours for a long time.” He went on to say he watches me all the time on FOX 26.
Smith also said he couldn’t believe anyone would hurt his neighbor. Smith who was married to a White woman said Muckleroy was one of the first people to welcome the interracial couple to the neighborhood. He said the murder victim did not see color when others did in the neighborhood.
A few days later Smith left me a voice mail on my station phone. He said he wanted to let me know he wanted to keep me updated if he learns anything about Muckleroy’s death. I didn’t think too much of it because after all, he said he was a fan. So, why not call me up and tell me you would like to help out.
Fast forward 2 months. Baytown police now say they believe that fan of the Insite is actually the murderer. Investigators say they found Smith’s DNA in Muckleroy’s house.
The elderly woman was stabbed to death and investigators believe robbery was Smith’s alleged motive.
Detectives say Smith was doing drugs all night ran out of money and turned to Muckleroy to get that money. Just a slice of the Insite’s life!
