State Representative Carol Alvarado (D-Houston) was appointed by the Speaker of the House, Joe Straus, as the Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Affairs, and a member of the House Committee on Redistricting and the House Committee on Public Health.
“I appreciate the Speaker’s confidence in appointing me to these important committees,” said Representative Alvarado. “I am excited and privileged to work on committees that address issues that I am passionate about.”
The House Committee on Urban Affairs will hear legislation on most, if not all aspects of municipal government, problems and issues with metropolitan areas, and has oversight of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
Representative Alvarado, a second-term Democrat from Houston who has previously served on Urban Affairs and Redistricting, she is a former Houston City Council Member who has made public health and urban affairs issues a staple of her legislative package since first being elected to the House in 2008.
