|Jolanda Jones and The Insite!|
The Insite received a call from embattled Houston City Council Member Jolanda Jones Wednesday evening.
It’s after nearly every station in town reported about her latest Office of Inspector General Investigation. This is the second in less than two months. The first complaint was thrown out.
Jones says the latest allegations she calls an intentional ‘distraction’ has only helped her alert Houstonians about their rights when they’re stopped by a Houston police officer.
She calls it a distraction because the council member has been chastised mainly by police officers for putting out what they call polarizing literature.
Jones is reportedly under investigation by the OIG for allegedly using her office to benefit her law practice.
Jones says she’s been handing out the card ‘Know Your Rights’ more than a decade and she doesn’t use her public office for personal gain.
That card instructs people how they should behave when stopped by a cop and it also includes a number to Jones’ law practice and city council office. That’s where it could be considered an violation.
But Jones tells the Insite since the reports that have aired about her alleged violations left her phone ringing off the hook Wednesday.
She says it’s been people wanting to get a copy of that card so they will know their rights when stopped by police.
To avoid any appearance of impropriety Jones is still trying to figure out how to get those people copies of the controversial card.
By the way, Jones has since taken her office number off the card which also advertises her law practice!
