The race for the city council seat in district B is getting interesting. It’s the post that will soon be vacated by term limited Jarvis Johnson.
So far the Insite has learned a member from Johnson’s staff and the brother of a popular Houston restaurant owner are running for the post.
First, Alvin Byrd. He’s worked in Johnson’s office for years as the community liason.
If Johnson can’t make an event you’ll likely see Byrd there in his place. The Fifth Ward resident is also out in the community addressing issues like joblessness and illegal dumping.
The second person in the race is Jerry Davis. He happens to be the brother of Breakfast Klub owner and talk show host Marcus Davis.
Jerry tells the Insite, “the district needs to move in the right direction and I have the tools to collaborate with other council members.”
Davis is the operator a youth mentoring program in Houston in addition to his business experience.
I ran into both Davis and Byrd both pressing the flesh with the community at the North Forest ISD Teacher of the Year ceremony last Friday.
District B is sure to be an interesting race!
