LEGENDS OF KTSU STRIKE AGAIN!

It was a year ago when I first published an open letter from a group called the Legends of KTSU.  Back then they were not happy with the direction the college radio station was going.  A year later they still have some concerns.  I’m publishing this letter (after it was heavily redacted by The Insite) because I know who it can be attributed to and how to contact them if there is a need for clarification or a retraction:

Since it’s inception, KTSU 90.9 FM Radio Station has been a constant pulse which beats life producing musical vibes throughout the Third Ward, The City of Houston and the World by way of the internet and the word of travelers who come in contact with this beautiful thing we have in Houston and go back and tell others they meet about “Jazz In All It’s Colors” and a whole lot more!!!

This institution provided a much needed voice in an ever-changing world where the colorful vibrations of its purveyors painted rhythmic hues of pianos and saxes to feed a generation of listeners the roadmap of the masters…that NOBLE sound.  From Basie to Sachmo to Ella, Sarah and Miles, that noble sound has set the pace through thick and thin it’s always been the Choice 90.9 on your FM dial.

Today our beloved KTSU (The Black Jewel) has been taken over by veritable dictators who forcefully have enslaved the artists also known as deejays who transmit to us all the music we have come to know and love.  We use the word enslave to emphasize the forceful power the leadership uses to get the so-called employees to tow-the-line or get the hell out!  In former letters to the public and the media, we outlined several areas that were being threatened by this regime which went virtually unnoticed.  Since that time, with the authorization of XXXXXXXXX, current XXXXXXXXXXXXXX has begun enacting sweeping changes at the radio station which will ultimately cause the demise of the reputation KTSU has built as a leading Jazz authority and provider for the listening public.  The direction and incompetent nature of her moves makes it clear to the experienced eye that this twit has no earthly idea of what to do in this slot and as time passes with her at the helm, the buffoonery only increases.

In the short passage of time that XXXXXX has been allowed to enact her gestapo approach over this entity, KTSU has taken a tremendous beating in the ears of its listening audience who are left yearning for the sound of the masters they once enjoyed.  Today there is a constant barrage of soupy sappy smooth Jazz music being inserted into the programming schedule on a daily basis and less of the straight ahead-middle of the road Jazz music KTSU has always been known for.

Nowadays, a true Jazz lover would do better playing music from their own music collection than to depend on the offering this current administration has played.  As if that were not bad enough, there is also the troubling forceful insertion on the Jazz landscape of XXXXXXXXXXXX as an emcee at each and every function that KTSU is involved in; serving as the sole representative of the radio station and the university on which it stands.  As an emcee, she fails at every outing to add any color, class or pizazz to the events we see her host, not to mention the fact that she is the worlds biggest groupie always being overwhelmed just being in the company of noteworthy artists and personalities thus proving that she is truly out of her league!  If this individual is to represent the station,  Texas Southern University and its Board of Regents, shouldn’t she  posess a more well rounded knowledge of the music and the artists as well as the history behind them?  As it currently stands, she does a very embarrasing job as the lead person on a staff of individuals who have a great deal more experience and knowledge than she and actually makes KTSU look bad not good.

(portion of letter deleted by the Insite)

KTSU 90.9 FM has a tremendous heritage of playing music and putting out vital messages in our community.  Surviving these past 36 years is no accidental occurrence and continuing to exist will be no accident either.  To try and fix something 36 years old by changing it is a fatal mistake and must cease immediately!

This is a cry out to the true lovers of “The Choice” 90.9 FM KTSU to stand up and be counted.  Let your voice be heard!  Don’t allow these individuals to destroy what you have grown to love.  This radio station has been built with the blood, sweat, and tears of hardworking volunteers who have devoted countless hours to this entity for no pay.  We’ve now entered into an era where the top people are getting the big bucks and the real workers are left out still with nothing…not even a bus token.  Sweeping changes have already begun don’t fall asleep and let them take KTSU, “The Black Jewel” away from it’s family.  “What Are They Doing To The Black Jewel IV”?

                                            Honestly Submitted,

HOUSTON WOMAN WANTS TO MEMORIALIZE DEAD TREES IN MEMORIAL PARK!

The Insite ran into Bernadette Benichou at Memorial Park in Houston.  She says she’s been jogging there for the last 15 years.

Benichou says to see the damage caused by the drought was heartbreaking and that’s why she came up with an idea to make use of those dead or dying trees.

The avid jogger says she’s ready to put $1,000 of her own money behind the idea.  So what is it?

Take listen to it on the Insite video below.

I’ve already forwarded the details of the proposal to the City of Houston Park’s Department.

What do you think of stumps along the jogging trail in Memorial?

WILL THE QUEEN OF HOUSTON RADIO BECOME THE QUEEN OF COMEDY IN HOUSTON?

If you wake up before 10 am and listen to 97.9 FM then you’ll likely know her voice.  She is Nnete.

She’s part of the Madd Hatta Morning show.

Nnete is a member of the early morning urban show team.

She’s also the no nonsense interviewer who takes on top notch entertainers like Kelly Rowland in compelling and confrontational interviews.

But the local talent is now in the midst of  taking the next step in her career.

Nnete has ventured into the world of comedy.  She now considers herself an up and coming stand-up comedian.

Nnete says, “I’ve always admired the guts and whits of Stand-up comics and the ability to share their unique perspective about life.”

Just this week the University of Houston graduate opened for a group of veteran comedians at the Improv in Houston.

It was Nnete’s first professional gig even though she’s done lots of open mic nights around the city.

The Insite has already seen rave reviews on Twitter and Facebook about Nnete’s Thursday night appearance.

She says, “in January, my college friend Comedian Billy Sorrells, who I hosted a stepshow with in 2006 in San Marcos, encouraged me to stop waiting, seize the moment, and get on stage.”

That moment has officially been seized.  But a shocking influence in Nnete’s decision was a man who comes from comedy royalty.

That man is Charlie Murphy, the brother of comedian Eddie Murphy.

Nnete says, “I started working out my material at various open mics and functions, then Comedian/Actor Charlie Murphy invited me to open a show for him at the Improv and I’ve been hooked ever since.”

And the rest is history…but Nnete’s comedic career is just getting started and preparing to take Houston by storm!

A REPORTER WHO HAS MAD RAPPING SKILLS: MEET MATT JOHNSON OF KATV IN LITTLE ROCK!

Matt Johnson aka The Rapping Reporter!

One of my friends from Little Rock told me I had to meet this new reporter he works with in Arkansas.

KATV photographer Ray Hamilton says that reporter is his co-worker Matt Johnson.

I had a chance to meet Matt in Philadelphia during an annual journalist convention and was thoroughly impressed with his rap skills.

He offered the Insite a sweet deal – if I get him signed I’d get 40%.

Anyone out there looking for an up and coming rapper who happens to be a tv reporter.

DID COUNCIL MEMBER JOLANDA JONES LOSE HER LAW LICENSE?

UPDATE: JONES APPARENTLY HAS PAID HER FEES WITHIN THE LAST HOUR AND NOW SHE’S REINSTATED AS A LICENSED ATTORNEY!

FOX 26 News has learned Houston City Councilwoman Jolanda Jones’ law license was suspended and reinstated in the same day.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Jones’ members license was suspended for not paying various fees and dues, according to the Texas State Bar.
When we checked with the state bar an hour later, Jones was listed in good standing with the state.
“It is possible that payment was made late this afternoon and reflected as such on our website,” state bar spokeswoman Kim Davey said.
Jones’ spokeswoman Kelly Cripe called FOX 26 to complain, saying the suspension was not related to allegations of Jones using city resources to benefit her private law practice.
Earlier in the day, Mayor Annise Parker issued her findings after an investigation into Jones.
Parker says Jones agreed to correct the problems along with conducting ethics training for her and her city staff.

I WAS JACKED BY THE HARRIS COUNTY TOLL ROAD COIN MACHINE!

I hit the Hardy Toll Road early Thursday morning hoping it would get me to work on time because of the delays on the freeway.

In my hurry I failed to notice that I didn’t have enough silver coins…So, I opted for what I did have in my car.  Pennies.  Lots of pennies.

In fact, I had just enough pennies to get me through the entire stretch of the Hardy Toll Road.

However, when I dropped my 93 pennies into the machine I noticed it only registered 90.

In my book that means I was jacked by the toll road.  Harris County owes me some change.

As a result of my financial loss I called the toll road system Thursday afternoon.  A customer service rep first told me pennies are not allowed because the toll coin machines are not set up to count pennies.

Then I thought about the 90 pennies the machine did accept.

That rep then said it was against the rules. What rules?  Then she said the machines don’t accept pennies, so if you deposit them you’re just stuck out because they won’t register.

Stuck out?  I just want my 3 cents back from the county because money is money.

What do you think?

HOUSTON DOCTOR SAYS SHE PLAYED ME FOR MY MONEY!

It’s rare you get a detailed look in the life of the wealthy…today you do.  Houston prominent physician Dr. Craig Fischer has filed a lawsuit against the woman he says played him.

According to the Harris County lawsuit Dr. Fischer, who practices at Methodist, says he was engaged to Nichole L. Johnson.

He says as part of his proposal he bought Johnson a 4 carat $73,000 diamond ring.

Fischer also alleges he leased his fiancee a $50,000 a year apartment and placed $25,000 in her bank account at Bank of America.  He says after that she cheated on him and broke off the engagement.

Dr. Fischer says Johnson also told lies about him on Facebook claiming he stalked her.

Fischer filed a lawsuit  against Johnson hoping to recover his ring, money, and his tarnished reputation!

THREE MEMBER PANEL ISSUES DECISION ON COUNCIL MEMBER JOLANDA JONES!

The final report on Council Member Jolanda Jones is now public after an investigation by a group of elected officials at Houston’s City Hall!

It details how Jones used her city telephone, staffers, and resources to benefit her private law practice.

That panel that included Mayor Annise Parker, Councilman C.O. Bradford and Council Member Sue Lovell  all agreed this was a matter that was serious but should not be taken to the full city council for disciplinary action.

As you already know the Harris County District Attorney’s office also refused to investigate Jones on these charges.

But the three member panel did meet with Jones to ask her to write a statement acknowledging her actions.

She has also agreed to change her ‘Know Your Rights With Police’ card to remove the city council office number on it.

Jones will conduct additional ethics training for her and her staff, take steps to ensure separation of her private business from her council office.

She must also have a record showing any of her staff who drives her to court is not on city time.

No comment from Jones just yet!

KEY PAC AND THE AKA’S EDUCATING THE PUBLIC ABOUT LEGISLATIVE ACTION IN 2011!

The Insite served as emcee Wednesday night at Texas Southern University for a very educational event designed to open eyes.

The political action committee called Key Pac and the sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha came together to present the Texas Legislative Update.

Members of the audience had a chance to hear from high profile Texas State Representatives Harold Dutton, Ron Reynolds, Alma Allen, and Senfronia Thompson.

From the budget shortfall to education funding, nothing was off the table with a very frank and open forum for the public.

The event was organized by Key Pac Chairman Felix Chevalier and AKA Chapter President Tamara Cubit.

The guest panelists and yours truly were all presented with goody bags at the end of the event.

Thanks Felix for the 2 piece Tuesday special on a Wednesday night.  You forgot my biscuit!

TEXAS LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DAVID DEWHURST MAKES A WEDNESDAY STOP IN HOUSTON!

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst & Houston businessman Ramon Manning

Francis Spagnoletti & Artee Jones

You know when you’ve arrived at a big money party by the number of cars outside with names you can’t pronounce.

That’s what happened when The Insite arrived to get some photos at La Colombe d’Or in Montrose Tuesday night.

As many of you know by now Dewhurst has thrown his hat into the ring for the U.S. Senate being vacated by the retiring Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Dewhurst spent the evening pressing the flesh and greeting a lot of the power brokers in Houston who are considering supporting the Republican Senatorial candidate.

Some of the people who attended: Phillip J. Sarofim (Trellis Partners – Sponsor of Event), Andrew Busey (Ichat Founder), Nick Lopez, Francis Spagnoletti, Marcus Spagnoletti, Artee Jones, and many more!
