REAL TV TALK: JUST BECAUSE IT’S AFFORDABLE DOESN’T MEAN IT’S GOOD!

I know it’s Black Friday and many of you will be looking for that perfect television at an affordable price.  But remember all tvs are not created equal.  Here’s what I can tell you: It’s Isiah’s electronics advice to live by and what televisons not to purchase no matter how cheap because they suck.  What I wouldn’t buy: Sanyo, Emerson, Coby, RCA, and Westinghouse – they may be very affordable but they are horrible in my opinion when you get them home.  Affordable televisions you can buy: Panasonic, Toshiba, Vizio, Sharp, and Mitsubishi.  If you’re looking to spend money on quality go with: Samsung, LG, and Sony is attempting to get its house back in order!

I’VE GOT TO GET ME ONE OF THESE OR YOU HAVE TO SURPRISE ME WITH ONE OF THESE!

I was floored when I ran into this piece of nostalgia sitting on one of the aisles at the Kroger in the Woodlands.  It’s a vintage Atari video game remade for the new millennium.  I don’t know all of the games on it but it’s got to be cool for all of us children of the 80’s.  I was pleasantly pleased at the price tag as well.  It’s going for a low and cool $39.99 – now that’s a deal I can’t pass up.  I will pick one up when I return after the Thanksgiving break if it’s still there.  Wouldn’t you like to have one of these?

NOW THAT’S THE BLACK FRIDAY SPIRIT I KNOW!

People camped out at Best Buy for Black Friday 2011!
Packages in Best Buy marked for the big day!

I was jealous of the people who had the time to camp out in front of the Best Buy in Spring, Tx Wednesday evening.

They were there waiting on the biggest shopping day of the year and you know that’s Black Friday.

I went by the electronics store to get me a new tablet when I noticed the unusual site that caused me and others to pull out their camera phones.

A line of people were camped out in tents along the front of the store.

Those folk had their wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends, and all the supplies they need to occupy the the exterior of Best Buy until Black Friday.

Would you camp out to be the first to get a deal for the exciting shopping day?

THE FERNANDEZ FAMILY CATCHES SOMEONE BREAKING INTO THEIR HOME ON TAPE!

The Insite received video of a man allegedly attempting to break into a home in Houston.  It’s the home of Jesse Fernandez.  He provided the video of the incident.  Here’s what Jesse had to say in the email below:

Here is the video of the guy trying to break-in at my house. Hope we
can air this guys face. I came home around 1:45 p.m. and found my front
door ajar and my alarm had been going off. After looking around, I did not
find anything missing so assumed my wife did not close the door right. I
called and asked her about it and she said she was positive she locked it.
When she got home she noticed the door jamb was split all the way down. We
checked the video and this is what we saw. If you notice the time on the
video, you will see I missed him by 4 minutes.

THE AIR CONDITIONING MAN HAS BEEN INDICTED AND CHARGED WITH A FELONY!

I really hate congratulating myself but this time I must.  I received a letter from a Harris County Deputy Sheriff thanking the Insite for catching a suspected thief in the act.  Investigators say the video we aired a few weeks ago showing a man who denied he was stealing an air conditioning unit in northeast Harris County is now part of a criminal probe.  That man has been charged with a felony for stealing that unit.  The deputy from the Sheriff’s Department thanked me for catching it all on tape.  Here’s the video of that guy again and the letter from the deputy!

The letter from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office:

 Mr. Carey,

I am an Investigator with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office – Burglary
& Theft Division and would like to speak with you for just a moment at
your convenience. Also, I would like to commend you on your interview
with the white male stealing the A/C unit at 7907 Cyrl Lane in late
October.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of Felony
Theft (copper) in this case. This would most likely have not have been
possible without your interview and identification of the individual by
his Texas ID card. I have been a police officer for 24 years and this is
the first time I have received a case where the crook was interviewed by
a reporter during the commission of the crime.

Thanks for your assistance and I look forward to speaking with you
concerning this case.

MAN CAUGHT ON TAPE TRYING TO BREAK INTO A HOUSTON HOME!

It’s that time of year when you’re likely out buying lots of gifts for family members and friends.  While you’re out in a holiday haze there are some criminals sitting and waiting to take advantage of you.  One Houston couple knows all too well.  They had their home surveillance system rolling when a man tried to kick in their door.  They say that man was scared off once their home burglary alarm went off.  That man hasn’t been caught because the couple is not quite sure who he is.  All they have is video and picture of a man they say is seen trying to steal what they own.  So let this serve as a clear warning to protect your home and property through the holiday season.  Make sure your home is safely secured and there is a home security system in place if you can afford it.  Also, never leave your gifts or expensive items in clear view of criminal who may be peeping through your window.  With that said – have a wonderful holiday season and watch your back!

MOVE OVER WALMART HERE COMES THE BANK GREETERS!

Over the last week we’ve heard how 9 people in Houston have been indicted and arrested for a string of  bank robberies.

The group worked together over a four year period robbing financial institutions from Sugar Land to Houston.

But the question I’ve always had is why have banks moved away from in house security.

Asst. Chief George Buenik HPD

That question was answered for me last week at FBI Headquarters in Houston by Houston Police Department Assistant Chief G.T. Buenik.

He says it’s a personal choice for a lot of banks and many choose another option you likely haven’t heard of until now.

That option is reminiscent of what you see everyday at Walmart.

A lot of banks in Houston and around the country have now turned to greeters at their front door.

Why greeters and how can they stop a bank robbery?

Asst. Chief Buenik says the greeters are a form of peaceful intimidation.

He says if a person who has plans to rob a bank is met at the door by someone who looks them right in the eyes, say hello, and shakes their hand – the suspect may likely feel intimidated.

You now have someone who can positively identify the bad guy because the greeter just looked him or her  in the eye and said hello.

When you think about it – it appears to be a smart idea!

STAND UP FOR YOUR CONSUMER RIGHTS!

I refuse to spend a minimum $5 when using a debit card and you should too…If a business requires you to do that you should then immediately report them to Visa or MasterCard because it’s against both card companies policy to require a minimum charge from a Visa / MasterCard user. Don’t be a victim!

The new law put in place by Congress in October 2011 limits and or reduces the amount banks can charge retailers from debit and credit card swipes.  Yet some retailers continue to require a minimum purchase amount at their stores.  Don’t pay it take take your business elsewhere!

SAMSUNG’S GALAXY S II EPIC 4G SNUBBED BY OTTER BOX!

OtterBox has firmly established itself as one of the premiere phone case makers on the market today.

The accessory has become about as popular to cell phone users as the Iphone to Apple heads.

But for those who don’t have an Iphone or one of the other devices (Evo, Bionic, Blackberry) that fit an OtterBox you’re straight out of luck.

A company customer service rep says there are no plans on the table to create an OtterBox for one of the most popular cell phones on the market today.

That device is the Samsung Galaxy S 2 Epic G for Sprint.

It has been selling like crazy but apparently the folk over at Otter have decided to leave it off their list of phones they cater to with their protective gear.

Here is the information the Insite received from a customer service rep from OtterBox:

Anthony Davis anthony.davis@otterbox.com

Isiah,

Unfortunately, we have no plans to make a case for the Sprint version at this time.  If and when we do, Otterbox.com will be updated immediately.  You can always sign up for our newsletter, located toward the bottom of our home page.

Thanks,
