When most of us see community activist Deric Muhammad on television, he’s likely wearing one of his custom suits.

In that attire he says he’s treated with the utmost respect by those in the community.

But Muhammad wanted to undertake an experiment to see how the other side is treated.

So what did he do?

Muhammad slapped on a hoodie and went out in the community to see just how he would be treated.

The difference according to the activist was like night and day.

Muhammad wrote about that experience in the local publication African American News and Issues.

He says while in his suit he was referred to as sir while in the hoodie women clutched their purses.

If you’d like to read about the full experience make sure you pick up a copy this week of the March 5th issue of the newspaper before they’re all gone!
