Some students at Lamar High School have claimed there have been riots on the campus today.

They sent out tweets saying it’s crazy at the River Oaks area school.
Some adults at the school also claim the campus was in chaos.

But officials from HISD sent out this tweet denying the claim even though students have posted video of the fights on Youtube today.

Here’s what HISD tweeted:

* Reports of a riot at Lamar High School are false. Some students made these claims as part of a misguided prank. 1 hour ago

HISD STATEMENT: Several students at Lamar High School pulled a “senior prank” today by throwing paper balls at classmates and running through the halls. Many students also used social media and text messages to report that a riot was occurring on campus in an apparent attempt to create a disruption so that officials would cancel classes for the rest of the day. Order has been restored and classes are back to normal. The incident will be handled as a disciplinary matter. There were no injuries and no arrests.

My son is a student at Lamar and I received a recorded message from the principle reading this statement… I am appalled that HISD has told us a flat out lie! I would like to know who is trying to cover this up and their job should be terminated! My son will not be attending Lamar next year!

  8. jasmine April 5, 2012 5:05 pm

    Lamar was so live today

  9. anonymous April 5, 2012 5:29 pm

This is such a lie. I was there. Mcswain lied to Hisd who then turned around and lied to you. This “cover up” will be unsuccessful and the truth will come out. The riot was real. It was NOT a senior prank and further more, there were many acts of violence today. This entire story is one big fabricated lie.

  10. Anonymous April 5, 2012 5:42 pm

This is BS. If McSwain, the principal, really thought this was a senior prank his job should be handed to another person. This shows his lack of knowledge of his students. An AP was assaulted today! It’s not senior pranks that happened it was freshman, sophomore, juniors who started throwing paper balls, this had happened AFTER two students had a fight in two separate hallways after finally being detained. Some time had passed for students to plan throwing paperballs, NO SENIORS WERE INVOLVED IN THIS PLAN! I experienced this firsthand as I am a student of Lamar High School, and the building the paperballs were thrown houses no senior classes. For McSwain covering his own ass he should be fired for lying! AND TO CANCEL SENIOR PROM WOULD CAUSE EVEN MORE UPROAR AND CHAOS IN THE SCHOOL BECAUSE IT IS UNFAIR TO THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE WORKED VERY HARD THEIR FOUR YEARS TO ATTEND PROM!

Of course it was a riot not a prank people don’t start throwing punches, running through the court yard like crazy people, and claim there was gun on the scene.

    • uche(princeton) April 5, 2012 10:21 pm

Anthomas there was no gun at the scene. Dont know who u heard that from. but it was a riot and there were lots of fights

Well, this wasn`t a random thing that has never happened before. First of all none of the fights that happened today, Second of all the students around the campus started making a very big deal out of this. These fights were not previously planned and it was a more of a racial fight. This was not an organized event by any group or organization on or off campus. The administration had to take action to keep the excitement among the student down. On the other some idiotic underclassmen kids started a childish act of paper ball fight which started was planned by some students on twitter. This act was called the senior prank by the school officials to cover up the mess, which was very unsuccessful. In fact no senior was involved in any of this. And we all have been in high school and we all have been a teenager, whenever there is a loud noise, in this case fight going on, teenagers and high school students will go there to watch and cheer, because we are dealing with for the most part with %60 immature kids. Overall today was a chaotic day around Lamar High School for the students and Administration, but all of these were coincident that happened to happen at the same time. I personally think the Administration did a good job handling the situation that some immature students, NOT SENIORS, started, and some other immature students, NOT SENIORS, made a big deal out of it. And this was definitely not the senior prank.

I’m a parent that is concerned about what happened today at Lamar High School. I am very worried about my child’s safety, knowing that she might come out injured from this incidents that have been happening at Lamar High School. She tells me that the principal Dr. McSwain worries more about the dress code, money and his own wealth. He could careless about the students health, food that’s served at the cafeteria and the students grades. I really hope that the school gets a New Principal and when I called for my child to get switched out of class they would never answer, They are badly organized and don’t know how to run a school. That’s all I can say.

  16. wtf. April 5, 2012 10:23 pm

My brother attends Lamar and I am planning on attending next year. He was there. Saying it was a senior prank and no one got hurt is such a blatant lie it’s fucking ridiculous. This coverup is so bad. There were at least 20 fights. Someone pooped in a stairwell. A girl broke her arm trying to escape a stairwell. An employee of Lamar’s boob came out of her shirt when she was being hit in the head with an orange, a water bottle, and a balloon filled with sand. People got trampled. The school was on lockdown. Prom was canceled, they didn’t just threaten it. HISD is trying to cover up something that won’t be covered up. And the students of Lamar and their families will not stand for these lies.

I am a student at Lamar High School. There was a riot, not a senior prank! Most of the students active in this event were sophomores and juniors. The administration at Lamar High School submitted false information to the media to save their reputation. I have photo evidence of the fights and arrests.

  18. Anthony April 6, 2012 4:39 pm

Such a shame…I know a student at LHS and he told me the truth. HISD should have known that if they say that this was a “prank”, parents and students would reply with the truth making their claim of a “prank” moot. I feel sorry for the students who attend this school to receive an education (not the ones starting riots) and that they have to deal with such a horrible administration, both at the campus and district level. Fire Terry Grier and McSwain!
