I had the absolute pleasure of breaking bread with some individuals who are totally dedicated to the cause at hand. They’re board members for the Lawrence Jackson II Foundation. Lawrence is a young man whose life was cut way too short back in 2005. But instead of constant grieving his parents focused their energies into another worthwhile avenue. They decided to pay tribute to their son by educating other your people in Houston, Lawrence’s community. That’s how I ended up at a dinner meeting with board members of the foundation planning the next 7th Annual Jackson Foundation Fundraiser. It will be held May 18, 2012 at the Junior League of Houston in the Galleria. The money the group raises will be used on scholarships for those who attended Jackson’s Alma Matter – Southern University in Baton Rouge. The Jacksons also decided to make the scholarship for band students at the (HBC) Historically Black College. Playing in the band was also true passion for Lawrence. That means the scholarships are for students in the band. So, if you don’t have anything to do or if you want to give back to a worthy cause make sure you attend the Lawrence Jackson Fundraiser on May 18th!
