The Insite has learned a very powerful Houston organization has put its staffers to work on a mission to get rid of an elected city official. Leaders with the organization, who want to remain anonymous for now, are researching if they can force a recall election for controversial Houston City Councilwoman Helena Brown. Since being elected in District A Brown has made a lot of enemies as a result of what some describe as bizarre and erratic behavior. Some say the elected official has also stepped on toes after consistently voting no on agenda items she sees as wasteful and frivolous. Brown has consistently given the thumbs down to city spending that included bullet proof vests for police officers, AIDS funding, and new bike paths. The Houston group calls Brown irrational and irresponsible in her role as an elected official. One source with the group says we’re researching the law to determine if we can recall her.
How is Brown responding? (None so far.)
