WHY IS THERE A VISITOR’S CENTER IN THE CITY OF SHENANDOAH, TX?

I’m not trying to be snippy or snobbish but I’m lost. I just can’t quite understand why there is a visitor’s center in the small  city of Shenandoah. With a population of just over 2000 people the city is located just east of the Woodlands and I-45.  But I just can’t seem to figure out what they’re promoting for visitors at the center.  There are some great people who call the city home but I don’t know of any tourist attractions.  Now, I actually called the center and I was told by an employee they do have the Foot Prints and Courage Museum which features David the Bubble Boy but that was about it. Do you know why Shenandoah has a visitor’s center?

  1. I lived across the street from David and his family. Unless the family gave their consent to have him “highlighted” in a visitors center – I find it distasteful. So are they telling people where he lived? I’m sure the new home owners will be thrilled to have “tourist” driving by their house at all hours. Unbelievable!

  2. David’s parents donated to the visitor’s center what the Smithstonian Institute did not use for the purpose of continuing David’s legacy. We have the utmost concern for all of our citizens’ security, therefore we would never point out any specific home or divulge names or addresses. The first time David’s last name was disclosed was on the day of his death, by the media. The citizens of Shenandoah have always been very protective of David and his family. David’s parents divorced and both remarried, his father and second wife live in the house where David grew up. David’s mother visits the elementary school named in his honor, and visits our visitors center often, was present at the grand opening of our new facility on David Memorial Drive. Every year she attends the David’s Dream run, benefiting Tx.Children’s Hospital for further research on Severe

The Shenandoah Visitors Center serves the entire community, helping people who are here for a swimming or diving event (at the Conroe ISD Natatorium) find restaurants, evening entertainment, etc. and we actually have more Woodlands visitors than Shenandoans. We have brochures and info on most of the cities in TX that have an attractions, helping people gather info for a Texas vacation, etc. Also our center is used by the Daughters of the American Revolution to conduct audio interviews of veterans. Our center has had nothing but positive feedback for the service we provide.
