It was build as a $13 million project that would make jurors lives much easier while serving their civic duty in Harris County. But things appear to have taken a turn for the worst just as temperatures begin to soar in Harris County for the summer. The Insite received this photo showing long lines of jurors snaking out into the street at the brand new Harris County Jury Assembly building. The whole purpose of the building was to provide as much comfort as possible for those who are serving on a jury. Apparently, that’s not happening for someone to snap this photo and post it on Facebook. I’m attempting to reach Harris County officials to get an explanation!

Facilities Property Management controls the buildings themselves. Specific procedures and protocol regarding the jury process is determined by the Jury Committee presided over by several Judges, including Judge Matthews.
I and the committee separately have asked FPM to address the issues with the lines (including changing how we screen jurors and where security is located). It is now currently before FPM directors and it will be up to them to take action.
As a reminder, jurors can avoid those lines by parking in the designated garage (per the back of their summons), and taking the tunnel to the Jury Building.
While Isiah has not yet contacted me or my office, I look forward to talking with him and assisting the tax payers anyway I can.
