We all know the word negro translates into black in Spanish but what does it mean on a pack of cookies? Surely, negro doesn’t translate into Chocolate cookies right? That’s why an employee of a local store complained about this pack of Negro sweets. The product is made in Turkey according to one of my producers who looked it up online. But it still doesn’t justify why the cookies would be called negro. That Houston manager who was apparently sensitive to his employee decided to pull the snack off the shelf. What do you think about the cookies and would you be offended?

On a hispanic note……
Let’s remove all items from the same stores shelves with cafe( brown )You on them.
First, NONSENSE like this spawns from uneducated, inexperienced immature individuals. WE (and by the way – I’M BLACK) as a race need to GROW THE HELL UP and move toward positioning ourselves in a better light. Why should it be okay for us to use terms like BLACKPLANET, BLACKAMERICAWEB, CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS etc. Yet it would be RACIST if it were WHITEPLANET, WHITEAMERICAWEB or CONGRESSIONAL WHITE CAUCUS. We can never move beyond this ignorance if we cry and point everytime we see something like the word NEGRO which was technically a RESPECTABLE WAY of referring to a black person EVEN DURING SLAVERY TIMES!!! Get a grip, and grow the HELL UP! NEGRO is Spanish for the color black, AND an ACCEPTABLE term used to refer to a person of color…specifically black. The actual “N” word is NIGGER or NIGGA – a derrogatory slang version of the ACCEPTABLE word, intentionally meant to be insulting. Tell the manager at that store to put the cookies BACK on the shelves AND GET SOME MATURE EDUCATED NEGROS to replace the shallow, uninformed ones who currently work there!!
THANK YOU ‘CORNELL AKA VECTOMAGE’ FOR YOUR RESPONSE, I WISH WE HAD MORE PEOPLE (OF ALLLLLL COLORS) THINKING LIKE YOU DO….. AND I ALSO AGREE WITH ‘PLAINOLDED’, IF WE HISPANICS GET OFFENDED, THEN YEAH, REMOVE ANYTHING THAT SAYS CAFE-BROWN ON THE PACKAGING….BUT I DON’T THINK SO, CAUSE USUALLY ITS COFFEE AND ITS GREAT!!!
Excellent line of thought.
