As many of you know it was Monday when FOX 26 News reported award winning gospel singer James Fortune was sued.
The suit claims he physically abused his stepson back in 2001 by putting the then 4 year old in a tub of hot water. Fortune through his attorney issued this statement to the Insite at midnight:
I recently became aware of a civil suit pending against my wife, Cheryl Fortune and I, for an incident that occurred in 2001 involving my stepson. There was a criminal investigation and all matters were resolved in 2003. Since that time, my family and I, including my stepson, have continued with family traditions and always have a loving family environment. We are shocked by this lawsuit but understand people are free to use the court system to pursue claims, whether they contain merit or baseless matters. We are confident through this process, if it proceeds to a judge or jury, the ultimate decision maker will render a decision that is favorable to the circumstances and timing surrounding this situation. We believe in our American justice system and know it will work for us as it has for millions of other Americans.
I love all my children, including my stepson, and I ask for your prayers as we deal with this matter privately. Thank you for your continued support for me, my family, and ministry.

I can’t believe he is still allowed to be anywhere near his stepson. And thr fact that he says”There is a lawsuit pending against MY WIFE AND I. He should have said against ME and my wife. He’s the one who committed the abuse. I don’t blame the parents for suing, look at what he did to a 4 YEAR OLD CHILD. It’s ashame. Especially since he’s an Award winning Gospel Singer. Like really?

I just don’t understand what type of mother would stay with a man that harmed her child in such a way. As parents we have a duty to protect our children!! As a mother this is disgusting!! This is sad, as a social worker I see sad women like this all the time staying with a man that abused their child. The truth is that there is a serious psychological healing that is needed for this child.No amount of money can repay this child for the physical and emotional pain caused by this man. No longer a fan!!!!
There is nothing wrong with discipline, but to even whoop a four year old for coloring on a desk!!! Really, what do you think four year olds do if you put a pen, pencil or crayon in hand??? I can’t imagine the pain this child felt…. I can’t imagine a “Mother” not being willing to defend her child! I can’t imagine her even being able to look in her childs face and not feel ashamed for not defending her child and putting him before “A MAN!” The Fortunes may feel as if they have a loving family environment and are carrying on with family traditions; but to not be willing to give whatever dollar amount is asked for is beyond belief to me…. I can no longer hold the same regard to them that I have in the past, especially to Mrs. Fortune. I pray that her son gets the help he needs financially but more so mentally and physically….
