Participating partners and vendors include: Baylor College of Medicine, Harris County Hospital District, Martin Luther King Clinic and Healing the Family, Inc. The Health Fair is expected to draw a multitude of the community’s residents to receive free groceries, HIV screenings, mammograms, diabetes screening, and other general healthcare screenings and testing to identify and address potential healthcare issues.

Senior pastor and founder of Greater Grace Outreach Church, Bishop E.L. Usher and his congregation recently acquired the 45 year old St. Agnes’ landmark and picked up the torch almost a year ago this August. In December, 2011, Greater Grace hosted a toy drive called “Christmas at the Grace” which gave away over 5000 new toys to needy children in the community and Houston area.

“Our goal is to reach the whole man; physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of every person in this community.” Usher said.

The extended organization of Greater Grace, Healing the Family, Inc., also founded by Usher, was recently awarded over $200,000.00 in grant monies to launch and implement an abstinence program for
youth and teens ages 10 – 18 to educate and encourage them to adopt a lifestyle of abstinence in an effort to reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

According to the city of Houston’s Health and Human Services Department, the Sunnyside community holds a record of the highest number of HIV/STD cases in the nation. Falling next in line with health
issues in the Sunnyside community are residents affected by chronic diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, all of which Usher and parishioners hope to cure through their health
awareness initiatives and healthcare partners.

Founded in 2001, Greater Grace’s membership currently ranks at 1500. Under Usher’s leadership the goal is to “Reach the world through the love of God.”
