On Friday night, July 20, another senseless tragedy occurred in Houston. Desmond Jones, a 21-year-old husband and father of two small children was carjacked and fatally shot in the parking lot of the Shadow Ridge Apartments, 12203 Walters Road, about 1:30 a.m., according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Leaders and citizens are alarmed and outraged. This is a heinous crime against an innocent family and against our entire community. Desmond Jones was a well-known minister and musician in the Houston church community.
Today, that outrage and concern will be expressed at a press conference and prayer vigil led by Bishop James Dixon, chairman of the Harris County Council for A Safer County which includes Sheriff Adrian Garcia, HPD Chief Charles McClelland, District Attorney Pat Lykos, as well as other community and clergy leaders. He is also the founder of Be Your Brother’s Keeper, Not Your Brother’s Killer.
Bishop Dixon will be joined by family members, Pastor Chris Edwards, other ministers and caring persons at the press conference and prayer vigil. Details are as follows:
