Just when you thought there was no money to be made working for the government think again.
The Insite has obtained the salaries of some of the City of Houston’s biggest money makers and you may be surprised.

And get this – Mayor Annise Parker doesn’t top the list. Instead her appointees and department heads take that title.
The Mayor’s salary like other elected officials is set by state law. But if the Mayor wants the best subordinates working under her she has the authority to set their salary with final approval from the council.

That means Parker is more likely to ask for a higher salary for her Finance Director rather than pushing a raise for herself.
I’ve also learned Parker just recently increased the salaries of many of her employees who work in finance positions in the city.
David Feldman – City Attorney
The same holds true for City Controller Ronald Green. His deputies have all been bumped up to to salaries higher than his own.
Green says he had to increase his staffers pay to keep them from leaving the public sector for private industry where they could make even more.
Green also says his office did a salary survey /study of the private sector to come up with what he considers fair pay for his staff.
