For years Bellaire Police officials considered changing the color scheme of their patrol cars but the cost was simply too high.
Chief Byron Holloway says during a tough economy the change would’ve been $500 to $1000 per unit.
He says but some dealerships are now offering the all white or traditional black and white units without any additional charge.
He says that’s why it now makes good business sense to make the transition.
Holloway says he hopes to have all of his patrol units in sync next year.

The chief also says the bold black and white units will also stand out to residents and criminals in the small city.
He says many residents have complained about the lack of police presence in their neighborhoods.
Holloway says while the presence is there the current patrol car color scheme of all white on some of the units tend to blend in too well.
He says people just don’t see them.
He’s hoping the black and white squad cars will solve that problem.
