The Consulate General of Mexico and the Suburban Houston – Fort Bend Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. cordially invites you to be their special guest at the opening ceremony of Domestic Violence Awareness Week to be held on October 29, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Consulate General of Mexico, located at 4507 San Jacinto St, Houston, Texas 77004. The event is an initiative coordinated by the Consulate and this local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta along with the participation of other Latin American Consulates and key government agencies. All participants are seeking to educate our community at large in regard to their rights as it relates to domestic violence.
The Violence Against Women Act was enacted in 1994 under the leadership of then-Senator Joe Biden. This act was put into action to create tough new provisions that would stringently hold offenders accountable for their actions. The Act also promotes programs to provide services to the victims.
