Officers located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Meadow Creek Village. Officers followed the vehicle and eventually saw the vehicle back into a driveway of a residence in the 5400 block of Shady Creek. The driver (Cardenas) then got out of the vehicle, knocked on the door of the residence and looked through the winowds.
Additional patrol units responded ot the scene, set up a perimeter near the house and waited for Cardenas to enter the residence. After several minutes, Cardenas kicked in the front door of the residence and entered. Responding patrol units then quickly moved in and blocked the suspect’s vehicle in the driveway and surrounded the residence. As Cardenas exited the residence, he was met by uniformed patrol officers and taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered a pistol in Cardenas’ possession, later determined to have been stolen in a home burglary several days before in Harris County. Officers also recovered stolen property inside the vehicle from other burglaries committed earlier in the day, as well as other stolen items from Cardenas’ apartment in Pasadena. Cardenas’ three-year-old son was also in the vehicle. He was not harmed.
Cardenas admitted to his involvment in the burglaries and he remains in custody.
