There is no nervousness in the air at one political watch party in Houston this evening.
Some of the guests have quietly arrived while the country music band gets in place and news crews prepare to go live.
They’re all here for the Ted Cruz watch party.
Cruz, who was an underdog when he began his bid for US Senate two years ago, already appears to be the victor.
The Houston attorney, who was backed by the Tea Party, quickly defeated the Republican establishment candidate Lt. Governor David Dewhurst.
Now, Cruz faces Democrat Paul Sadler. The men are battling to fill the seat being vacated by retiring long time Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson.
Texas is a Republican state and barring some miracle Cruz is likely to win this contest tonight.
The latest polls show Sadler trailing behind with 36% of the vote while Cruz carries a hefty 51%.
So, for most attending Cruz’s watch party at the Hilton Post Oak…tonight is simply a formality for a certain victory.
A victory for a man who wasn’t taken that seriously back in 2011 and is likely on his way to DC in January!
