Charges have been filed against a suspect who fired several shots at a Houston police officer at 6910 Old North Belt about 6:40 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 18).
The suspect, Brouchea Lemond Edwards (b/m, DOB: 10-26-75), is charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer in the 339th State District Court.
Officer J.J. Garcia, who discharged his duty weapon in the incident, was not injured.
Officer Garcia, assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in December 2011.HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officers T. Miller and M. Miller reported:Officer Garcia responded to a shooting call outside an apartment complex at the above location. As soon as he arrived, the suspect (Edwards) opened fire on Officer Garcia, with bullets striking his patrol car three times.
Officer Garcia then discharged his duty weapon. The suspect was not hit. Moments later, Officer Garcia deployed his conducted energy device (CED) on the suspect and he was arrested without further incident.
As is customary when an HPD officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
