A Houston community and church are preparing to take on prostitution. It’s the area where I first met Peaches and the gang. Here’s the note to address the problem that has plagued that community known as Westwood:
December 21, 2012
Dear Westwood Community Neighbor:
We are so excited about an opportunity for the people and citizens of the Westwood Community to take a stand on the prostitution and sex trafficking epidemic that has saturated and infiltrated our Westwood neighborhood district. We are hoping that this letter will encourage all of our neighbors, businesses, stakeholders, city councilmen and partners to connect with us to begin to strategize on how we can create non threatening opportunities for those women who participate in prostitution to transform their lives to become more productive citizens. It is also an opportunity for the partners of this community to bring healing to those who have been victimized by it. We would like to inform you that the Higher Dimension Church and its Office of Community Empowerment officially had its first prayer meeting on Sunday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m. Over 200 concerned neighborhoods, clergy, law officials and community activists came together to begin to unify and pray for strategy for combating prostitution in this area. We definitely understand that this community issue is no small feat, but we believe and have received volunteer commitment through over 68 signatures indicating their readiness to invest in the process to relieve this community and its families of these harmful environmental circumstances. We would like to invite you and interested parties in your organization to join forces with us on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 for an official Town Hall meeting to create engaging conversation and awareness regarding the prostitution and sex trafficking problem in the Westwood Community. We will meet promptly at 7:00 p.m. at our Higher Dimension Church D-Spot Community Center Theater located at 9745 Bissonnet Houston, Texas 77036. We are asking you individually to be a part of the panel discussion. The logistics and format will be emailed to you at a latter date. We are also asking that you respond to this email with your availability to participate in the panel discussion segment of the meeting. Should you have any additional questions, please contact Nickcole Byrd, Program Director for the Office of Community Empowerment at firstname.lastname@example.org or 832.353.6534.
