GIRL SCOUTS’ STATEMENT ON RIFLE CLASSES!

girl-scouts-logo-2Statement on Riflery Program

The safety and well-being of girls is and will always remain our top priority. The purpose of the riflery program, which takes place under the guidance of certified instructors and requires parental permission, is to educate older girls about marksmanship and firearm safety in a controlled environment.

The Girl Scout organization does not take a position on any political issue related to gun control at the state or federal level. We believe this is a private matter for girls and their families to address together.

I seriously thought this ‘outrage’ was a joke. Guns utilized as personal protection are, at the very best, dubious. Marksmanship, however, is a safe and legitimate hobby/sport/activity. What Girl/Boy Scouts learn in their classes is not only how to shoot, but general gun safety – use the trigger lock, point at ground, NEVER point at persons, never threaten with a weapon, etc. They’re not teaching them how to shoot people to defend themselves – quite the opposite.

Obviously they’re pro-gun if they offer a riflery program. They need to quit being suck mamby pambys and admit they support their members’ 2nd Amendment rights.
