THE BATTLE TO STOP THE LANDFILL IN WALLER COUNTY RAMPS UP!

Waller County commissioners will hold a public hearing in anticipation of a vote on whether to amend or repeal a county ordinance that currently prevents the proposed Pintail Landfill in Waller County from moving forward over the recharge zone of Chicot/Evangeline aquifer. The hearing will be preceded by a rally followed by a march to the courthouse where concerned citizens, university students and community leaders will express their opposition to the proposed landfill that could threaten water quality for thousands of Gulf Coast residents.

 

WHO:             Waller County commissioners, local elected officials, concerned citizens, community leaders, industry experts and Prairie View A&M University students and leadership

 

WHAT:           Waller County Commissioners Court public hearing

 

WHEN:           Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 6 p.m. (rally will begin at 5:00 p.m. and march at 5:30 p.m.)

 

WHERE:         Waller County Courthouse, 836 Austin Street, Hempstead, TX 77445 (rally and march will begin at Hempstead City Hall, 1125 Austin Street, Hempstead, Texas 77445)

                       

WHY:             Georgia-based Green Group Holdings, LLC is seeking authorization to develop a landfill near the intersection of Highway 6 and 290 west of Houston. The proposed landfill could threaten water supplies for thousands of residents in the Gulf Coast region who rely on the drinking water from the site’s underlying aquifers.
