GOOD IDEA OR BAD? PLEASE SOUND OFF!

BATON ROUGE – Restaurant owners are watching a bill which is intended to allow people with concealed carry permits to bring their weapons into bars. The House already approved HB 48 by Rep. Henry Burns (R-Haughton), and it is currently scheduled for a Senate Judiciary committee hearing. The bill originally was designed to change a state statute barring any guns at an establishment which sells alcohol, bringing it in line with the state’s open carry law and letting off-duty police officers carry their service weapons into bars and restaurants which served alcohol. Concealed carry permit holders would still be barred from carrying weapons while under the influence of alcohol. An amendment passed by the House, however, added language which would permit anyone to openly carry a gun in restaurants serving alcohol. Rep. Helena Moreno (D-New Orleans)¬†told the Times-Picayune¬†this week that the Senate Judiciary committee would amend the bill to remove that language, restoring the bill’s original intent.

CHL holders cannot drink while carrying. It’s ridiculous to ban CHL owners from carrying in restaurants just because they sell alcohol.
