WHY ARE SENIORS AT JAMES MADISON HIGH SCHOOL PAYING A CHURCH HONORARIUM?

When parents at Madison High School were told they had to pay a $125 senior celebration fee for their children to walk in the graduation they wanted to know where all the money was going.

While many of the fees were self explanatory some parents were concerned about that church honorarium.

Since we began asking questions we have since learned the senior fee is not mandatory and we know the name of the church where that honorarium is going.

HISD spokesperson Denise Cantu says the money goes to pay for musicians, videographers, and others.

Here is her full disclosure statement:

The church this year is New Faith Church. The church is always selected by the committee which is comprised of seniors and their parents and every year it’s a different one.  In the meantime, just want to clarify that the portion of the senior celebration fee dedicated to the church honorarium is actually to pay for individuals who provide services to the church facility such as musicians, videographer, custodial staff and speaker.  It is not a donation.
