THE MISSION TO HELP HOMELESS CHILDREN IN WESTWOOD!

Houston, Texas:  Higher Dimension Church and Its Office of Community Empowerment met with the Best Elementary Parent Center, and the Metropolitan Organization to begin to strategize about summer outreach efforts for the children of the Westwood and Alief Communities.  Susan Wade, Homeless Liaison for Alief ISD released devastating numbers of 1402 children that are homeless in the Alief Community.  All three organizations are beginning to reach out to District J City Councilman Mike Lasster, the City of Houston, and other organizations to help begin to make noise about this growing number of homeless children in the community.

These homeless children mostly are children of broken homes, and or single parent homes and are desperately seeking for transitional housing.  Community advocate, Beryl Hogshead and TMO representative Franklin Olson have been meeting with county officials to find a way to provide housing in the community of Westwood.  All organizations are even more concerned as school’s are on break for the summer and children will be subject to not having lunch meals and shelter during regular hours.

Higher Dimension Church and its Office of Community Empowerment; Executive Director has decided to implement outreach efforts this summer to help alleviate the issue by partnering with the City of Houston’s Summer Food Program.  The Summer Food Program with an added recreational component of dance and nutrition workshops will allow children in the community to have shelter for most of the day not to mention an opportunity to forget about the struggle of being homeless and just be a kid.

The HD Office of Community Empowerment has also decided to provide for the youth of Westwood a Free MOVIE Day on June 27, 2013 in observance of the National HIV Testing Day!  Youth will be invited to watch a family movie with FREE movie snacks.  The movie will be shown three times that day.  Youth interested in participating can also be tested for HIV for FREE.
