The Factor has learned a San Jacinto College police officer has been indicted and arrested over allegations of filing a false police report.

Court records show 51 year old Sgt. Kerri Lynette Burch was charged with tampering with a governmental record.

San Jacinto College officials confirm the arrest saying Burch is accused of filing a false police report related to an accident on the campus.

However, school officials did not say what gain the veteran officer would get by tampering with the document.

Teri Crawford who serves as Vice Chancellor of Marketing at San Jacinto College says Burch is now the subject of an internal investigation at the school.

She also says the sergeant has been placed on leave during the criminal probe by the District Attorney’s office.

Here’s a statement from San Jacinto College:

We learned this week that one of our officers, Kerri Burch, was indicted for tampering with a government record based on the officer’s preparation of a San Jacinto College Police Report. The officer has been placed on leave pending a review of the charge as filed by the district attorney’s office. Because of the pending investigation, we cannot comment on the indictment other than to state that San Jacinto College is fully cooperating with the District Attorney’s office regarding its review of this matter.

The San Jacinto College police department takes pride in serving to enrich the quality of life of San Jacinto College students and employees. It is committed to the values of integrity, justice, service, and trust, and holds each of its officers accountable for their actions.
