HOW MUCH TIME WILL THE GUARDIAN GET BEHIND BARS?

47 year old Sylvia Ann Villarreal will soon know how much time she will do for felony theft.

Villarreal has entered a guilty plea after stealing more than $100,000 from seniors and those with disabilities
in the island community.

The former long time Galveston County employee worked in the guardianship program.

Prosecutors say that is where Villarreal’s responsibility included paying the bills of her wards at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Investigators say instead of doing her job she pocketed the money even some of her elderly victims broke and close to eviction.

Galveston County first assistant District Attorney Donna Cameron says Villarreal took advantage of some of the most vulnerable citizens in our community.

Villarreal could face a sentence as high as 20 years in prison for the charge of felony theft.

Galveston County Criminal Court Judge John Ellisor is hearing the case in the 122nd and could render his decision as early as Tuesday.
