The Houston Police Officers’ Union has been on a mission for the last six months.

Members of the organization have been trolling sites like EBAY and Craigslist looking for HPD paraphernalia.

HPOU President Ray Hunt says they want to keep products like badges and uniforms out of the hands of the general public.

Hunt says in the wrong hands someone can use the badge or uniform to inpersonate a police officer.

Union officials have been disturbed by what they have been able to find in their quest online.

Hunt says his group has paid out over $2,000 buying up authentic HPD badges, patches, and even parts of uniforms.

The union says they’re asking HPD’s legal department to contact EBAY and Craigslist to request they not sell authentic HPD associated products.

Hunt says he’s not quite sure how sellers are getting their hands on the products but he’s certain it’s not being done by police officers.

He says the badges and uniforms are the property of the city and anyone besides an active police officer should not be in possession of the products.
