The Harris County District Clerk’s Office, through an agenda item on Tuesday will inform Harris County Commissioners Court that jurors will be paid $40 a day – a third more than they have been receiving. District Clerk Chris Daniel said the pay hike will increase the incentive to come to jury service, especially among some groups such as part-time workers, homemakers, retirees and the unemployed. With such incentives, he hopes that fewer people ignore requests for jury service. He believes that the public has more confidence in the justice system when more people from all socioeconomic groups come to jury service – we end up with jury panels that better reflect the demographics of Harris County.
Where: Harris County Commissioners Court in the County Administration Building, 1001 Preston, 9th Floor
When: Tuesday Sept. 10. Meeting starts at 10 a.m.
