When Bethel Missionary Baptist Church’s internal structure burned to the ground in 2005 many thought it was an end to an era in the Fourth Ward.
They were wrong.
As you can see from the photos displayed the City of Houston’s Parks Department along with community residents have saved the walls of the church.
The old structure has actually been turned into a functional park by Joe Turner and his staff over at the Parks Department.
The church, founded in the late 1800’s by Jack Yates, will begin a new phase of existence with a grand opening this Saturday at 10 am.
The renovationroject cost $2.5 million!
