The Factor has learned what was once considered a game of knockout in Katy has now been elevated to a hate crime.
It was back in November when an 83 year old African American man was brutally attacked by a 27 year White male.
Katy Police Assistant Chief Tim Tyler confirms the incident was videotaped by the suspect on a cellphone.
We’ve now learned the attacker used racial slurs while he attacked the senior citizen who ended up hospitalized.
Sources close to the investigation say the suspect is heard on the recording saying he was searching for a n-word to f-up.
Shauna Dunlap with the Houston FBI confirms they are now investigating the case along with the Katy Police department.
A source close to the probe says federal involvement means the attack is now being seen as a hate crime.
We’ve also learned investigators know who the attacker is but have yet to make an arrest because of the potential to enhance the charges under federal jurisdiction.
The suspect apparently showed the video to several people in a bar but he didn’t know one bar patron was actually an office duty police officer.
In the meantime, the elderly man sustained multiple fractures to his jaw, chin, and some teeth were knocked out.
That man remained hospitalized for four days.
