CBS SOAP OPERAS HIT FIVE YEAR HIGH IN JANUARY!

There may be some hope for you soap opera fans in TV land as we enter 2014. Over the last few years we have seen some of the oldest soap operas (Guiding Light -70+ years & All My Children – 40+ years) cancelled by the networks because of high production costs and low ratings.

With only a hand full of daytime dramas remaining it appears some of the shows are now holding their own. The Young and the Restless has more than 5 million daily viewers.

Shows like Y&R and The Bold and the Beautiful have garnered some of the highest ratings in half a decade in the month of January. There’s no clear reason why but this is great news for my Mom who wouldn’t know what to do without Victor Newman.

Here’s a look at the latest ratings for the last few remaining shows or as my Mom calls them ‘stories’ on the air:
